BAL X-Chock Wheel Stabilizer

What is a RV Wheel Stabilizer and Why you Need One.

Travel trailers are way get out and see the outdoors. Often, you’ll find yourself camping at a site that is less than level. In our years of full time RV living we’ve encountered sites that were down right scary. Downhill or uphill, these sites add a little stress in setting up.

Wheel stabilizers are designed to prevent your wheels from moving forward and backward. Thus keeping your trailer secure from rolling down the hill. They can also help to lessen the rocking sensation inside the trailer.

The most basic and inexpensive is the typical wedge chock. For single axle trailers, these are the only option. How many do you need? If you want the benefit of actually stabilizing the trailer you’ll need 4. Two for each side of the trailer. The same is true for a tandem axle trailer.

Pros

  • Inexpensive
  • Easily Replaced
  • Simple to use

Cons

  • Some wheel rocking
  • Difficult with leveling blocks

Benefits of BAL X-Chock Wheel Stabilizer

We travel full time in a tandem axle trailer, its our home. It needs to be secure and stable in a variety of camping sites.

We have camped at sites that were concrete,  asphalt, gravel, grass, dirt, beach sand and ice. Honestly, at some sites we just couldn’t the safety and stability from a typical RV wheel chock. There was just too much movement regardless how hard we tried to make it work.

By applying opposing pressure on each tire (both side of the trailer), we get exactly what we need in any location. These X-Chocks have improved our camping experience.

There are simple to setup each and every time. The time you use them, you are setting up the base distance between the tires. When you go to take off, just a few turns of the wrench and they slide off ready for the next setup.

An added bonus to this system is when you go to use these in the future, you’ll know instantly if the distance between the axles has changed. We’ve never had this happen, but I have heard that some serious problems can occur if the axle distance changes due suspension damage.

Also, we use Camco Leveling Locks to level side to side, and we’ve had them stacked three high. The X-Chock work perfectly using any type of level system.

Pros

  • Easy to use
  • Excellent weather protection
  • Works on any type of surface
  • Locks wheels in place
  • Reduces rocking / Improves stability

Cons

  • Requires included wrench
  • A little more expensive than standard chocks
